Description

Summary

Senior legal leadership role supporting a multinational healthcare business in Japan. Provides strategic legal and compliance guidance across commercial operations, corporate governance, risk management, business development, and regulatory matters. Partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders to support compliant business growth, manage legal risk, oversee disputes and external counsel, and drive practical, business-oriented solutions in a complex international environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal and compliance advice across commercial, regulatory, employment, competition, anti-corruption, intellectual property, and corporate matters.
  • Partner with business leaders and cross-functional teams to support compliant operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial and business agreements.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and compliance risks through policies, procedures, and training initiatives.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including board and shareholder-related matters.
  • Oversee disputes, investigations, and external legal counsel management.
  • Deliver practical legal guidance to functions such as sales, medical, regulatory, HR, supply chain, procurement, and communications.
  • Promote alignment with regional and global legal best practices and compliance standards.
  • Drive process improvements and adoption of technology-enabled legal solutions.

Requirements

Required Experience & Skills

  • Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Strong background supporting multinational organizations, ideally within a regulated industry.
  • Expertise in commercial law, compliance, corporate governance, and risk management.
  • Ability to operate effectively in cross-border and matrix organizations.
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Commercially minded with practical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and ability to manage complex issues with minimal supervision.
