Description

The Program Development Leader (PDL) is in charge of the complete engineering of the product and process, in compliance with Quality, Cost, Timing, Performance and People objectives and within PMS (Program Management System) requirements.

Scope of work & time frame:

  • His/her scope of responsibilities goes from concept design received from Concept Engineering to Start-Of-Production + 3/6 months (once quality standards have met customer specifications), from PMS phase 2 to phase 4 when in development

  • Builds the internal engineering schedule to match with the customer master schedule and industrialization / purchasing constraints.

  • All tasks are done with the appropriate tools and in compliance with the PMS work-packages, company standards & 8-Quality-Basics, in support of functional milestone “time to pass” objective.

  • Reporting: Monthly report summary of design progress (on PRC(Program Review Committee)-template), including corresponding action plans.

Product definition:

  • The PDL formally releases/approves internally the DATA-levels that are given to the customer

  • Leads completion of CAD to ensure compliance to requirements (acceptance of customer product specification including geometry convergence together with his design team on site and off shore

  • Makes the functional analysis when required, develop the DFMEA(Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and complete the action plan, support the PFMEA(Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and define the key characteristics.

  • Leads the action plan to solve all technical issues (including perceived quality problems)

Process definition:

  • Ensures the feasibility of the process customers in line with best practises and GTS standards & guidelines, including ergonomics standards.

  • Checks process feasibility for BOP (validate feasibility studies of sub-suppliers)

  • Defines tool specifications with the support of PTE and approve tool design release through the tool launch process, involving PML and GTS

Validation:

  • He/she is responsible for the full validation of the product and process, to reach Production Part and Process Approval (PPAP) on time and in compliance with OEM and legal requirements (S/R, Environment...)

Cost Control:

  • Works in compliance with D&D budget and negotiate internal ECR with the Program Manager

Customer relations:

  • The PDL is the primary technical representative in front of the customer,

  • He/she supports program management at customer in order to achieve the profitability objective of the program

  • He/she leads the PDCA for technical problem-solving.

People management & development:

  • Manages the D&D team-members functionally (including product design engineers (PDE), development engineers (DE) and process tool engineers (PTE)).

  • Ensures good communication within the extended technical team, production plant, offshore development sites, and support teams as well as sub-suppliers of engineering services, tooling and BOPs .

  • Coaches & follow-up his/her team-members to reach performance.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Master's, bachelor's degree in engineering, technician, or significant professional experience
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in design within an industrial environment, preferably on automotive interior parts
  • Meets the requirements of the Engineering Profile for the function
  • Knowledge of 8 Quality Basics.
  • Leadership skills
  • Team leader with strong communication and managerial skills
  • Able to work in a multicultural environment
  • Native Japanese
  • English required, and customer’s language strongly encouraged
